At Orion we are passionate about providing our students with a well rounded curriculum that incorporates hidden knowledge and skills that will develop our students throughout the school day. Our young people are growing up in an ever increasing complex world where their neurodiverse needs will be constantly challenged. It is therefore crucial that we prepare them for adulthood in all that we do each day.
Our specific aims for our students within the PSHE and RSHE curriculum are to ensure we:
- develop their knowledge, skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy and safe
- develop their curiosity around social, spiritual and cultural affairs
- develop them as responsible and independent members that are inclusive within our diverse society
- develop their understanding of the importance of having positive, healthy relationships in their lives.
- develop their own reflectiveness and compassion for others through restorative principles and practices.
We implement the curriculum through 2 dedicated PSHE lessons each week and we dedicate additional extended learning days throughout the academic year. Each week the students experience an assembly based on PSHE affairs. We follow the jigsaw curriculum to ensure sequential and progressive learning.
Relationship, Sex and Health Education is delivered as part of the PSHE curriculum. The aims are to teach our students to understand human sexuality and to respect themselves and others.
