Family Links Nurturing Programme

Orion Academy is offering the Family Links Nurturing Programme to all parents and carers. This is an exciting opportunity to join a 10-week programme with other parents, which will support you to manage the challenges of family life. Please see the attached leaflet for more information.

What is the Nurturing Programme?

Children are rewarding, stimulating and fun, but looking after them can be stressful and challenging. The Nurturing Programme helps deal with those challenges so that you can have a calmer, happier life. A tried and tested programme, it helps us think about what we do, why we do it and how it makes us feel.

Over the 10-week Programme, you will look at lots of different topics, including:

  • Understanding why children behave as they do
  • Recognising the feelings behind behaviour (ours and theirs)
  • Exploring different approaches to discipline
  • Finding ways to develop co-operation and self-discipline in children
  • Learning the importance of looking after ourselves

How Does it Work?

The Nurturing Programme is voluntary and parents can refer themselves if they would like to take part. Partners are welcome and it’s also fine to come on your own or with a relative or friend.

There are ten 2-hour sessions (with a tea and coffee break), so there will be one group each term, or three groups per academic year.

8-10 parents are invited to join each group, and there are two Family Links trained group leaders. You need to come to all ten sessions as they fit together like a puzzle.

Sessions will run weekly on Thursdays from 16:00 to 18:00. We are aware that transport can be a barrier for some families, so we will choose a location that is accessible to as many parents as possible, based on the applications we receive each term.

How Do I Apply?

To apply for a place please contact Francine Shaw on the school number or via email at francine.shaw@orionacademy.co.uk
